Italian Wine Scholar Class @ The Texas Wine School. 100% Organic Sangiovese. Aged 1 yr in very large Slavonian oak casks. Med+ to deep ruby. Med+ nose, w/ some barnyard, tart black cherry, black plum, earth, leather, tobacco & a touch of sweet baking spices. Dry, juicy, w/ med+ acidity, med+, grippy tannins & high alcohol (14%). Full-bodied, structured, w/ med+ intensity & length. It really needs food or even more time in the cellar. Somewhat difficult to peg as a Sangiovese, it could be mistaken for a Montepulciano.

Dark ruby. Initial aromas clue you in this is Sangiovese. Some funk blows off about 30 minutes in. Deep cherry, pomegranate, crushed stone, spices, leather, tobacco. Almost all of these carry to the palate. Classic Sangiovese acidity but a bit more oomph. Fantastic wine. Her “reserve” wine is a step up on this bottling though by a handful of points.

I enjoyed it although acidity and tannins are still strong. Might smoothen with more years in the cellar (2-3?). Fruit? Yes, something like cherry but I cannot fully identify it. Feels stronger in the nose than in the mouth. I like the 14%. Previous vintages were more alcohol-intense.

This was more austere compared to the previous bottle I had, aroma of plum, earth, bacon with good acid, bitter dry tannins.

Insane QPR.
Structured, well integrated tannins. Depth of herbal and dried red fruit characters. Iconic nature of Sangiovese shines.
