eleven-vintage Ata Rangi vertical (K&L Redwood City): medium ruby and somewhat translucent in the glass. an even more complex nose with rich earthy notes anchoring the ethereal floral wafts and the fresh red fruits. broody and intense in the mouth, it will clearly need quite some time to properly integrate. hints of truffle and mushroom give the wine a decidedly autumnal bend; pomegranate and blood orange notes give some brightness. long persistence.
13% AbV; ~40% whole cluster; eleven months in French oak (25% new)

United Cellars Grand Cru Pinot Noir tasting (The four seasons hotel, the rocks, sydney): slightly unripe baked dark hued fruits; berries; cherries, sweet spice. Like the Pegasus Bay it has a little meaty wild ferment note, polished oak. Juicy, fleshy, lightweight cherry backed by oaky tannins. Like the Escarpment Kupe I find this out of whack but with more fruit to support the structure. Again time should help but <shrugs>

Raspberry, violet, fennel. Lighter, more structured, more acidic than the Pinot blend.
