A very rustic and masculine Volnay. A mix of black and red fruit, spices, oak, and some smoke. Quite complex on the nose but also a bit "heavy". On the palate the wine had great acidity but also dense and a bit heavy as well. Probably needs another 5 years. 90-91p.

Seems to be a touch of reduction here, which I don’t normally get in Lafarge wines. A bit of oak. Red fruit, cocoa. Really silky and seamless. Very good with upside.

Vibrant red purple color. A bit firm and strict initially—but opened up with an hour of air. Interesting mix of Violets and currants on the nose. Intense palate, fruity, but there’s rather pro mint acidity on the attack and fine tannins on the back end. For a village wine this is still pretty wound up. Nice concentration and intensity though—I expect this will be quite nice in the future.

After about 2 hours, this opens up beautifully with a sour tartness to the tones of red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, spice notes, crushed violets, savory herbs, sweet tobacco, and some crushed rocks. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and deft with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is really lovely after a bit of air, if in a primary way. I can see this benefitting from another 5-8 years of aging to really let the aromatics bloom.
