This is still very young and slightly closed. Decanted for about 2 hours and it‘s starting to open up a little. Dark notes of plum, dark cherries, minerality, menthol, some violet pastille, lavender, also some earthy undertone, dark chocolate and a touch of animalic notes. It‘s medium+ bodied, but with very good mid-palate persistence, has pretty high acidity and medium+ tannin that seems excellent quality and silky. Very good length. A fascinating wine that is not easy to read right now, but as I have bought them pretty regularly since 1996, I am pretty confident that this will turn into a total beauty with another 2-3 years in bottle. On day 2 this is much more open, with beautiful balance, excellent freshness and juicy dark fruit, minerality and menthol notes.

Burgundy 2016 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): slightly stalky, slightly sour but with some jubey black fruit notes. Quite disjointed on the nose. A little mud and earth. Sour, gritty and unpleasant. Nah.
