So pleasant to sample a true Chenin Blanc that shows strong varietal character and good acidity. Few white wine aficionados realize that off-dry Chenin Blanc was, in the early 1970s, the most popular varietal white wine from Napa Valley. That and Gamay Rosé kept Robert Mondavi Winery afloat while Bubba developed Cabernet Sauvignon and Fumé Blanc, at that time not popular yet with the U.S. wine drinking public. This one, from the Central Coast, proves that dry Chenin Blanc can be quite attractive to white wine lovers who don't care for the the overly priced, highly oaked, sweet and soft Chardonnays so prominent on wine shelves today.

Pale straw, nose starts out musky, then centers on citrus, yellow gooseberry and beeswax. Clean, tart palate. I like this as a food wine. It would be even better without the musky note.

A solid everyday Chenin, though not as good as I remember my past experiences with their Jurassic Park vineyard Chening being.

A beautiful Chenin nose. And clean and tight on the palate but also super interesting.

Got even better on day two. Somewhat of a shockingly good wine.
