  • Northern Rhone WIMPs (La Trompette, Chiswick): Deep ruby/garnet - extremely youthful appearance. Jammy, dark fruit, creamy vanilla, just a hint of savoury bacon and one sense the quality but a bit difficult to get past the jammy fruit and oak, and a slightly tannic finish. ***

  • Smoothy, mature, modern, yet balanced, a polished Cornas, for sure, but stil on of the better bottle from this domaine, that I've had. the very mature Syrah-year seems to have suited their style, and the abundant fruit has matched the very oaky wine making. Rich with black berries, some pepper, bacon - and polished edges. Well groomed.

  • Looking at my last note from nearly seven years ago, I guess this wine just needed more time, because whoa. Raspberry and vanilla. On the palate this is no short of amazing. Fruit up front and really rich. '99? Huh? Tastes like a 2007 at worst. And if 2007 is the worst? Bring it on. And on. And on. Whoa a go go. Fruit, earth, sass. All of it. This is why you age wine. thedrunkencyclist.com

  • Medium/deep garnet core, medium pale ruby rim. Nose is still quite youthful with attractive blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, bacon and a touch of blood. Palate is medium/full bodied, soft tannins, pure black fruit to the fore, touch of bacon, whilst it is not heavy or flabby the acidity is a touch subdued for my liking, although it finishes with a good length, harmonious finish. This is a decent drink, and a big improvement on the previous bottle, but at least at present perhaps still lacking a little aromatic vitality and complexity.

  • Decanted 1/2 an hour. No formal notes. Muted on the nose, with slightly dusty red cherry and raspberry fruit, spice and some notes of leather. Medium full on the palate with quite soft tannins, fresh acidity but again, a slightly uninteresting red fruit profile. This bottle at least lacking that spark of excitement and adventure that Cornas should deliver.
