Earthy, rustic, very cool and herbal. Even some marks of stones. Almost entirely on tertiary notes, and surely the first glass was better than the last, but even on the decline this provides plenty of old-school Neuf interest. Drink up.

Perfectly mature now, this is primarily on tertiary notes of sous-bois and garrigue but there is also dusty, red-toned fruit underneath. Traditional in style, light, upright with notes of mint as well, this is a great surprise. And there is no change on day 2. Bought chez the Usseglios back in the day. Drink up, but will keep for a few more years.

At Chez l'Ami Jean. This was a nice wine, drinking nicely at the moment. On the nose, lifted notes of red cherries were met by warmer aromas of spice, garrigue and roasted coffee. The palate had the elegant feel of a 1999 Chateauneuf-du-Pape, with silky tannins and fresh, citrusy acidity draped around a lively mouthful of red cherries starting to take on a dried fruited sweetness, and then warm spice and herb trailing into the finish. A very sound, immensely drinkable CDP.

A perfectly mature CdP. A fair amount of bottle funk when first opened, but after 30 minutes of air it blossomed into a wonderfully aromatic and tasty wine.
