Had the same experience as Jochems, discovered the one 2006 hiding among a stack of 2008. The 2006 was the one that starting me purchasing Birccotondi. This was had taken on a slight color of age (a little thining around the edge of the glass), but was the best one of the lot. Message, leave the 2008 alone for a while.

I found another bottle while sorting out my cellar to make it ready for moving to another location. Its better than the previous on (from the supermarket shelve....) in fact, its better than I the other bottles I've had. Proper storage for a few years has brought out more complexity while retaining that specific Barbera character of fruitiness and acidity. Compared to this vintage the '10 I recently had is pale and lifeless....... I think this last bottle definitely deserves a notch up in the rating.

Yummy delicious stuff. Lots of soft fruit, but backed with nice acidity. A little more "new world" than I typically prefer from Italy, but I'm not going to argue about its quality. Highly drinkable and should hold up well for at least a couple more years.

(Fontanafredda Barbera d'Alba Briccotondo) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-really nice dark cherry; chocolate covered cherries; steak juices; TASTE-nice and tannic, dark chocolate, clove component, raw cauliflower on the mid-palate to the finish; rounded out w/ really SOUR cherries; well made; a little lighter than most Barbera's; a very friendly & value driven wine; good firm tannins; pretty; rose pedal component on the finish; a serious wine; worth seeking; very young; put away for a few years and you'll be ecstatic; WS-90; GV-89

- Medium forming legs - Not a bad value for $11 but forgetable
