Popped and poured; enjoyed over lunch at Buvette. Deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some slight signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of funky-fresh tart cherries, some horse stable, blackberries, pomegranate, river rocks. On the palate the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with some grippy minerals. Lovely with lunch! Drink now through 2032.

I am a novice to Spanish wines and Mencia as a varietal but the instantly impressive balance and freshness of this wine was very appealing. Tasting somewhere in between a bordeaux cabernet and a northern rhône syrah, this wine paired brilliantly with the mediterranean/middle eastern cuisine at LA’s Saffy’s restaurant. Overall: 92.

Softer, less spicy and more elegant than the La Vitoriana, still with notable oak aromas. Needs time.
