On the nose: Muted red fruit. Slightly boozy. A little meaty. On the palate: Bracing tannin. Red fruit, plum, chocolate, Christmas spice, soy. Round and meaty. On the finish: dries the mouth; slight soy, mushroom, cacao, and stone fruit.
I strongly agree with the other user who stated that this bottle reminds them of cheap Rioja.

Dark cherry and boysenberry notes, vanilla from the oak. Also getting a subtle (and very pleasant) taste of campfire. Medium/fuller bodied, strong Gibbs-Marangoni.

This was pretty good for the price actually, and dramatically better than the "entry level" - I didn't realize Ste Michelle uses American oak like this, but it was really dominant here, lots of coconut, cedar, and spice that mostly overwhelm the soft plummy fruit. It's kind of good though- feels like real wine (in fact, I'd probably blind it as a cheap Rioja or something with all that American oak) and there's some actual structure and fruit lingering there too. It's coarse and simplistic, not very well-balanced, but also flavorful and stands out nicely in its category.
For me it falls several steps short of the CS Substance Cab, which is the same price at Costco.

Very nice for $16. Some tannins and acidity after 1hr decant. Possible cellar candidate.
