Hawkes Bay Tasting (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Surprisingly meaty over savoury concentrated blackcurrant plum, sweet spice, a little polished oak. Juicy, tending to medium plus intensity acidity, spicy black fruits, concentrated without being overwrought, good quality oak, shows more on the palate, tight, slightly grainy tannins persist with the fruit helped by aa touch of alcohol warmth. Kind of nice.

Deep almost inky ruby color. Robust nose of dried blackcurrant, black plum, charred wood, expresso and chocolate. Dry, rounded acidity, mellow tannins, palate follows through. Full body, fantastic balance, long finish. Strong without being overpowering.
