Very heavy sediment in bottle requiring filtering into a decanter or glass. Garnet and ruby colour in glass. Mild nose with tobacco, smoke and earthiness. The nose improved slightly over time and with exposure to air in decanter but remained subdued. Very mellow on the palate with soft tannins and very silky mouth feel. Pleasant flavours of red fruits with hints of jammy undertones reminiscent of a young port. Distinctive Marechal Foch flavour profile leaning to green/ underripe berries and woody/ cedar hints. Overall this wine was probably well past its peak. Not a great wine but a solid representation of its style and grape and a pleasant accompaniment to a good roast beef dinner.

Had at a tasting. An interesting old world feel with much of the fruit being jammy rather than vibrant and fresh. A solid bottle, but not in the way we expected.

Very dark. strong toast on the nose. Should go well with game meat. Much more complex than the Regular Quails Gate old vine foch, in a total different league. Good but this is not my glass of wine.
