  • Alongside a Kruger-Rumpf 2009 Spatlese, this came across as so much sweeter. Peach, apricot, quince, honey, ripe orange. High acid. Medium finish of orange peel, lemon, and honey. Not sure what to make of it.

Update after a day or two: still quite sweet and rich, nice enough, but not a blockbuster.

  • Good to drink now. Ripe Anjou pear, peach and honey on the front- to mid-palate and a touch of zesty citrus on the finish. Bouquet has the trademark petrol notes of a good Spätlese. Definitely on the sweeter side - I can see how some would compare this to an Auslese. Good wine for the price.

  • Spätlese?? This is big, powerful Auslese - had to look twice at the label to make sure it wasn't an '06. Intense, incredibly ripe apples, peaches and yellow fruited flavours accented with touches of honey and floral elements. Very rich and sweet but with good acidity underneath. Still incredibly primary, putting my other bottle away for a few more years.

  • Better than the Fruhlingsplatzchen drank alongside it. Riper and rounder with pear and citrus and a little bit of yellow stone fruit along with salty minerality. A little more depth, concentration and acidity than the Fruhlingsplatzchen while maintaining balance. Also a little bit longer finish without any of the biterness that the Fruhlingsplatzchen displayed. Very enjoyable at this point and probably won't improve much with more time as it wasn't noticeably better on the second day. It should probably hold up for at least another 3-5 years under proper conditions.

  • A nice bottle to sip with pre-dinner appetizers and a good match with our pear salad, although not particularly profound at this point. Decent balance, although more 'tart' than acidic. Sweet (over-ripe?) pears, zesty grapefruit, and maybe a hint of minerality. I'm not sure if this will improve much with time, but I don't have enough riesling experience to say for sure.
