A $16 purchase on sale. This wine is a selection of the 20 best barrels sourced from blocks 11 and 33 in the Shea Vineyard. Dijon clones 114 and 777. Opened at Salt of the Earth restaurant in Fennville. This wine surprised me and it took a little while for me to come around and for the wine to open up. At first, their was a distinct lack of fruit but with air the secondary and tertiary flavors came through. Rich crimson color. A dry and earthy wine with notes of underbrush, dried mushroom and red currant. This felt more like an old world wine to me. 90 points.

I have really enjoyed this wine in the past and have given it a 93 on previous bottles. This had nice fruit but was rough around the edges and a bit tannic. Was surprising, will try another bottle in 6 months to a year.

Generous nose of darker red fruit - black cherries, sage, pine, with a small dose of potpourri spice. Palate has medium body and lively acidity. Fruit is firm but lifted, persistent and in balance. Suave tannin. No hard edges and seamless into a long baking-spice finish.
