  • 2021 is a challenging vintage and some wines have lower ABV like this one (12.5%) and they dont have the richness that 2018, 2019 and even 2020 had.

So did this wine show poorly? Not at all! Although obviously lighter, it was still a great expression of Côte-Rôtie. Medium dark red color. Nose of blackberries, raspberries, smoke and herbs. On the palate, red fruits along with black fruits, smoked meats, thyme, some pepper. Medium finish with soft tannins.

The main reason I opened this one so young was too see how I enjoyed the 2021's and honestly, i will be buying quite a bit of the 2021's because at least with this wine, it's a lighter style of northern Rhône Syrah and very enjoyable already. The less fruitforwardness of the wine I had this evening let other aspects of the wine shine through and was very welcome.
