Joseph Phelps Vineyards Spring Release Event (Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Napa Valley): $100 winery retail. Nose of black berry, black currant, black cherry, and earth, same on the palate, tasty, medium/big body, medium amount of soft tannins, seductive fruit, opened slowly but opened, well balanced, medium/long finish, lovely aftertaste, enjoyed 3 pours this afternoon, given the price, pass.

Got this at a restaurant when the menu said it was an older vintage. I don’t want to do a full review because tasting conditions were not great and it definitely needs more time. My impression is that it is full bodied with structured tannins and there is potential, but it also tastes like a good, but fairly generic Napa Cab. Time will tell.

Coravin’ed 1/3 of a bottle. I agree with Chefcar…low tannin with this vintage. Though, it’s only my first taste. And, I guess I like low tannin-wine with my ribeye tonight. I really enjoyed the nose and dark fruits on the palate it produced. Since there’s no 2020 from JP, I ended up with 6 bottles of 2021. These are more ready to drink than 2019 and 2018 in my opinion.

Even so young, this is a full-bodied Cab without a ton of tannins. We opened it a couple hours before enjoying and it was great. Lots of cherry fruit, leather and earthiness with a nice long finish.
