Tasted double blind in a lineup of 13 wines from the 1980's. Nose and palate consistent with green peppers, earth, cedar and cassis. Medium length finish with a slight hint of mint with gravel at the very end. Fully resolved tannins, drink now if you have any left as it may be on the decline. Would love to have tasted this one 5-10 years ago to compare. Initially pegged this for BDX but changed my guess to CA on my second taste (can't remember why, just going from my chicken scratch notes).

CT Offline IV--Hill Country Edition; 5/18/2012-5/19/2012 (Austin / Texas Hill Country / Castleman Ranch): Lots of cedar and vegetal on the nose, and a bit of barnyard, and some spice. Sweet, almost a bit like bubblegum on the palate. A bit of cedar and light green pepper. Really smooth, with a bit of spice as well. Really astringent, and good acidity, showing this one can last for a long time. Almost like some vanilla and floral / flowery notes. Really delicate, like a beautiful woman. Really like this wine. Think it will be really mature and showing its full potential in a few years, but frankly may be too young to really accurately predict what it will be. Think it'll turn into a beauty though.

Tasted double blind. Opened and served immediately.
Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, fairly clear looking. Nose of barnyard, camphor, plums and some floral notes. Flavors of berries, raspberries and cherries. Hovering between bright and tart acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I'd likely go ahead and drink.

CT Texas IV - A Hill Country Treat; 5/18/2012-5/19/2012 (Austin, Texas): Like the Barbaresco before it, this has seen better days. However, like the Barbaresco it was still providing some pleasure with a nose of bright red fruits, tobacco, cedar, and a hint of mint. On the palate, bing cherry, cedar, tobacco. Good balance on the finish.

Amazingly enjoyable after being imperfectly stored for all this time. Expected to find it undrinkable, really. Dark cherry color with antique mahogany tones befitting its age. Engaging nose with little fruit but plenty of dark leather and tobacco overtones. Characterized by similar flavor notes and surprising structure with intriguing mid palate.
