  • Light gold color. Drank a couple glasses over 2 hours. Ordered from the list at The Compound. The nose has a lot going for it with prominent floral tones, ripe stone fruit, and sweet oak; pear with more nuanced peach and lemon fruit. The palate comes off as plush, fleshy and ripe, with what I would call restrained opulence, ripe and layered, medium-full bodied, stone fruit and lemon, some sense of minerality but lacking some in cut. There's plenty to like here and the style is somewhat of a hybrid, though more ripe and the oak needs more time to fully integrate. I think the scores are outrageous, but this merits a couple years to see where it goes. 91+(+)pts now, some upside of a point, maybe two.

  • pale straw and moderately viscous. aromatic nose of white-fleshed fruit and citrics with toasty and floral whiffs. dry and medium-bodied, citric acidity leads into a broader palate of orchard fruit that, balanced by a saline minerality, seems to grow into the moderately long finish.

13% AbV; from a cool windy site with coastal influence; aged in neutral French and Oregon oak for eleven months.

  • Had this alongside a 2020 Montille Bourgogne blanc, I was surprised how different they were from one another. This wine pours a pale lemon. Med + intensity on the nose, developing flavors of orchard fruit: green and yellow apple, pear, apple blossom, wet stones, lemon, lemon peel, some creamy elements, and a bit of toastiness. Palate matches the nose, dry wine, med + intensity, med + acid, med/+ body, med alcohol, with a med + finish. Really balanced in the mouth, and it just seems to glide and progress across the palate. Very good wine, can drink now, suitable for further aging. I am really liking the 2021's from Martin Woods, everything thus far has been so good!

  • I was really looking forward to a thorough and detailed tasting with Evan Martin, but on arrival at 10am for our appointment, we were informed he only had at most 30 minutes due to the not-totally-unexpected fact that he was going to have to start picking that morning. When the moment is right you can't wait. So, we had to run through a bunch of wines rather quickly. I took cursory notes and will not rate the wines as a result. Every previous experience with his wines on the whole has been excellent, I just had a hard time processing things as quickly as required and was not feeling my best either.

From a vineyard planted in 1996 on very shallow topsoil. Evan considers this as his Chassagne-Montrachet look-alike. Smooth and bright though not as gorgeous as the Koosah bottling for me.

  • Really pale straw color - nearly colorless. Pretty in its own way. White tree fruit and a hint of reduction which, to me, is awful but it’s just a hint so it’s manageable. Bit of citrus - tending to grapefruit but not as strong. Soft mouth feel. Silky. Not much flavor in the mouth but the finish explodes. Citrus and Granny Smith apple and white melon. Surprisingly good in an offbeat way. I love Oregon chard and this is decent. Have now had two bottles of this and I’m still puzzled over whether to buy it again or not.
