Robs note Great old claret. Palate more expressive than nose. Good texture and weight, and all in balance. Surprising freshness, but needed to be drunk quite quickly.

Drunk with rob and dad with the 96 and 98. Old claret. Fully mature. P more expressive than n. Leathery with sweetness of fruit and tannin still there. Some meatiness on n. Nicely textured and balanced. Held together after opening for an hour or so. If I had another bottle I’d open and not decant (which is what we did). Really sang for the first half hour/45 mins. Very similar to the 96 in style.

Chateau d'Angludet mini vertical (KC's place): Cork slipped (dropped?) into the bottle with application of Coravin...Insta-panic! Decanted and put under argon immediately but took a sample to make sure it was worth retaining. Initially cellar stink then leather, a little almost asparagus, sweet and baking spices, plum and brambles, a little baked warmth here as well as a touch of volatility. In the mouth it's quite savoury with flavours of brambles, leather, a sense of breadth, tannins are a whisper, with time gamey notes, a little green element, cigar box. It held up until dinner time but was just consumable and descended as the evening progressed.

Double decanted an hour before dinner. Lovely notes of tobacco and leather. Very little bricking. Nose was not very feminine (which I associate with younger Margaux’s), but it was warm and nuanced. Highly recommend this as an elegant old Bordeaux a long way from its end.

my first bottle with no brett. Wonderful. Bright cherry/cranberry fruit and all the tertiary notes one could hope for in aged bordeaux. Lacks the weight or complexity of great bordeaux but was wonderful in its own right. Consensus was it blew the doors off the '86 GPL served before it.
