  • The wine is smoky, mineral, has a very subtle Riesling fruit and a wonderfully ripe, well-integrated acidity. There is a slight tannic grip at the end. Everything is subtle and in the right balance.

An excellent "Ortswein" that is wonderful to drink now, but also has plenty of potential for ageing.

  • Dry Riesling tasting at Georg Breuer (Rüdesheim, Germany): Lemon colour with green reflexes. The bouquet of the Rauenthal appears cooler than the Rüdesheim Riesling. More stony by comparison. Again bright fruits, though slightly less exotic and less ripe. More in the direction of pear. In the mouth, light-bodied, but linear and monolithic with grip and a good acidity. Fresh citrus, some herbs. Salty finish. I like this one. Still young and should develop well over the years. Indicative points in the low 90s. [First published on DMueller.com.]
