Barbera-ish Battle; 11/20/2015-11/22/2015: Surprisingly more balanced on day two - though was showing well off the bat. Sweeter riper fruit that the 05 Dry Creek. spicy and savory herbs. mid of sweet plum (that was much less sweet and more bright on day 2). Complex wine with notes of smoke and herbs on a long finish.
Crimson in color. 15.4% ABV. Perfumed nose of red fruits, plums and sandalwood. Medium body with great acidity. White pepper, kirsch, raspberries and blackberries on the palate. The finish is long, rich and creamy. Drink over the next year or so. Great showing.
Montafi Ranch is my favorite Carlisle Zinfandel and this was an outstanding one. Full of flavor and great depth with no apparent sweetness. It was dark red fruit, cherry and plum, with meaty components and power with no bite. Really rounding into shape after 7-1/2 years.
