In South Beach. Seems like a more mature version of the 2004, which is younger and more primary, but will probably age similarly. This 00 is more rugged, shows less of the 04's vanilla, but is otherwise an honest CCR with leather, dirt, bay leaf and dried Sangio spices. Enjoyable, and drinking at peak now.

Wonderful, big nose of dark fruits and licorice. Full bodied, but a somewhat disjointed palate that eventually smoothes a little with air. Nice sangiovese grip, but a finish that ended rather abruptly. Thought it was going to be excellent with the superb nose, but ended up being very good.

For a supposedly forward vintage, this was still very tight, with exceptionally drying tannins. There is good complexity, but at this stage the tannins needed appropriate food. If you have any, wait a year or three.
