The wine was medium yellow-golden in colour and offered red apple, dried apricot, bread, smoke, firestone and some mineral notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed apple crisps, grapefruit, apricot, bitter almond, some smoke and some mineral notes, paired with medium-plus acidity and good length of the bitter finish. Appetizing directly after pulling the cork, but quickly turned more and more bitter, and finally became rather unpleasant to drink after a few minutes. Past peak.

Lay & Wheeler Oyster Feast (Mersea Island, Essex): Bright light gold. V light buttery nose. Nice fresh attack. Light and very clean. VG finish and exceptional length. Quite crisp and a bit slatey. Good.

Trying very hard, but a bit too old now, still drinkable.
