  • Left it too long - brown sugar palate and port like nose with little redeeming on the finish.

  • Clear wide deep red core of medium intensity out to a narrow light red (with brown notes) rim and a watery edge. Thick slow moving persistent legs of regular spacing - suggestion of it's 14% alcohol.
Clean and complex nose of mulberry, prunes and deep dark moist earth and mushrooms. A port like nose.
Heavy and rich on the palate with soft raisins and prunes (again very portlike). Definite tannins but they are soft with sufficient acid to balance the very rich and sweet fruit flavours.
    Finish is long and fruitysweet
This is a delicious wine to enjoy now but the portlike qualities suggest it may keep and perhaps even improve in the near term (5 years?)

Later - there's a note of ripasso to this wine; an underlying chocolate bitterness and a touch of tannin that suggests Italy rather than Spain.
