  • Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Very elegant and somewhat lighter than I expected for a 2006. No geosmin or weird rot notes here, this is actually very clean with a lovely spice note and fruit that comes off more red than black. Feels just a little bit dilute, but the flavour profile is outstanding, especially for a rough vintage like 2006.

  • Tasted blind – A solid core of blackberries and dark cherries, dark peppery nose. The nose is slightly restrained compared to the palate, which is showing great richness and complexity. Plenty of energy with good structure. A great bottle but I feel this might be too young to drink. Not sure the vintage, Malconsorts? (92/100)

  • Popped and poured. Really lovely right out of the bottle with some depth showing pedigree. Darker fruit. Silky tannin and fresh, balanced acid on the back end. Compact and delicious.

15 min in - Iron and acid showing up. partially shut down.

1 hour in - More iron and acid. Really shut down. Thin and acidic.

90 minutes in - Rounding out. A touch of caramel? rich, silky. Darker fruit emerging. Classy.

2 hours in - Wow... this is gorgeous. Forward with the fruit, very fine tannins, nice back-end acidity, moderate length, very balanced. Super elegant. Absolutely top level 1er cru juice. This tastes so pure. Little to no detectable excessive oak influence. It tastes like it has not been handled heavily.

2.5 hours in. Barnyard starting to show up faintly. A touch of VA too maybe? Palate still singing. Fruit is lush and perfectly ripe. 06 clearly will reward those who can wait. So fresh and elegant.

3 hours in. Everything is integrated and harmonious. I think this is near it's prime drinking window and should hold for a while. Maybe 3-5 more years of this with the fruit still so fresh. Fantastic.

  • Bob Mandeau's 60th Birthday.
All day. This was beautiful. Darker fruit with a refined sense of elegance to balance the acid/tanin structure. Classy stuff. Decanted for 45 min. The was really beginning to show at the end of the bottle sadly. Going to sit on the others for a bit or decant longer next time. Very persistent with a long finish.
