My first time tasting a wine from Emmanuel Rouget and also my first time trying a Passetoutgrains! Can't really find any information of the specific blend of the 2022, but it seems like he in general uses 75-85% Pinot Noir and 15-25% Gamay.
Didn't really know what to expect but man is this a serious wine and not something to just pass over quickly... Especially at the price of ~€27!
Right off the bat, the wine feels open and inviting. On the nose there's a beautiful red berry/fruit core with some dark berries mixed in as well. The oak is very much present as is this earthiness and kind of hung meat.
On the palate it's really the same expression. Such a great core of raspberry, sour cherry, forest strawberry, blackberry, dark cherry and plum. Tannins are softer but there's a wonderful depth to it with forest floor, mushroom, earth, oak, spices and some florals. The wine is so greatly balanced even at this young stage, and the acidity, tannins, fruits, depth and complexity are all so nicely in sync.
To me this drinks like a great Bourgogne Rouge or even one of the lower Villages, so at this price is truly overachieves! I can understand the hype and prices on the market for Rouget - Would be fun try some of his more serious stuff...
