  Took this a barbecue. PNP. Cork perfect. From memory Color bricking. Can't remember the nose but it was really windy outside. On the palate this was all secondary w no dark bramble fruit left. At first I was disappointed but then I realized that this was still a great albeit totally mature wine. I have experienced such a thing before with Ridge wines but never had an old Martinelli. Was a little alcoholic but was quite nice with our baby backs and Bbque sauce. this has been properly cellared so unless stored in a meat locker I expect yours is ready to go. Will drink my 98 soon.

  Nose of kirsch, plum, fig, and briar, tastes like a Cabernet, big body, rich fruit, slightly old but what a wine, long, lovely, finish.

  In the glass a medium ruby with bricking for a half inch around the rim - burgundy glasses - In the mouth the first impression is an almost overwhelming cotton candy sweetness which fades in half an hour and reveals black fruit liquer, leather and dried herbs and fully intergrated tannins. This is an almost elegant zinfandel at this point in it's life and if the classic Martinelli sweetnes wasn't so intense I would have rated this a point or two higher.
