  • Sampling the 2022 vintages from Drouhin Laroze revealed a captivating blend of ripe fruits and tannins, enhanced by unexpected freshness despite the year's intense heat (a common feature in all of Burgundy in 2022). Although these wines sometimes verge on excessive ripeness and are not the most transparent and pure Burgs, their robust concentration, depth, and elegant structure impress. I particularly liked the menthol note I found in all cuvees (together with spice aromas). The highlights were Bonnes Mares (94pts) and Clos de Beze (95pts), both excellent investments for future enjoyment (must buy!).

TN: Spicy red fruit nose, with some minerality and menthol notes. Good, inviting bouquet. A step up in complexity compared to the En Champs and Vignes Belles on the palate with a red fruit core, floral notes, minerality, some toasty notes and a minty freshness. Quite elegant and fine, with a light and airy feel. A great success.

  • DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/19/2024-3/20/2024 (Beaune): Walkaround tasting with producers. Assembled now, will be bottled next week. Whole cluster spice comes through clearly with lots of rich and fun black berries throughout. Good density from beginning to end, this is already charming, better in another year or three. Lots here with easy balance.

  • Tasting the 2022s from Drouhin-Laroze. They use approx. The barrels are max 3 years old. In general, the wines appeared to be built in a way that will require more aging. Sweet fruit, hints of Balsamic and herbal freshness from grass and menthol were common features. Among the Villages, the Vignes Belles was not far off of a 1er Cru. Bonnes Mares and Clos de Bèze were on equal footing, but with vastly different characters.

    Tasting note:
Fine sweet spice complements a lighter sour cherry fruit with just a hint of rhubarb. Also grassy herbal notes and smoky minerality.
