I thought this was good, but a tad forgettable. Dark red fruit intermingles with grainy earth and cedar elements. There is a muddled black cherry note that permeates throughout the profile, adding both interest and the perception of a slightly overly advanced delivery. A little tired, but with enough requisite freshness to keep it in proper focus. Finishes pretty rustic. I was hoping for some additional fruit and flavor intensity here. Drink now, I guess…?

What a toothy beej. '07 was an uneven growing season known for producing lighter reds, but the degree to which that impacted this vintage of l'Ermite isn't well-reflected in other reviews.
We tasted '07 first, then later opened a '98 l'Ermite for comparison. The '07 is just lacking any depth and power, and much lighter and duller than even expected, which the '98 underscored with exclamation.
Ruby in color, uncharacteristically thin with shorter legs. Fruit is soft and barely there, and instead of the characteristic intense black plum, my notes are primarily soft strawberry and blueberry, flint and wet stone, forest floor, and allspice. Finish is barely there.
I am a huge Chapoutier fan, not trying to hate here, however there's a reason the price on this vintage has come down so much. Worth skipping IMHO.

My first old world Hermitage and loving it. I was enticed by WineSlash at $88/750ml and their description along with some of the reviews here. This wine will not disappoint. It is dark, dark red and is holding together tightly with black fruits, anise and a hint of cranberry. Nice finish, good and tight and what you would expect from a top shelf wine. It's a nice change up to the daily Bordeaux or CDP.
It was good on the pnp, but will improve after several hours. Stored at 55F and served at room temp, guessing about 68F. Beautiful nose of fruit and oak.

96 vvPunkte www.vvwine.ch

Amazing bottle of aged northern Rhone starting to give off minerality as a major player as compared to the dark fruit of syrah. Extremely powerful yet still light. PnP with no worries.
