  • Visit to the estate. Current production is around 120k bottles overall on 14 hectares. General snippets from the tasting: i/ The estate used to be larger, but several hectares were sold off in order to focus on only the best sites. ii/ In 2021, they lost 50% of production due to frost damage right after budbreak. iii/ A warm region where they can‘t do Riesling, but protected by the black forest from too much heat. iv/ Non grafted vines. v/ All reds are equally aged in lightly toasted French oak, 1/3 new, 1/2 used once, 1/3 second use, a more light-handed approach by Julian Huber compared to Bernhard Huber who used to work with more new wood.

    Tasting note:
A blend of about 50/50 Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, vines with about 50 years of age. The estate produces this as a tribute to the regions heritage. Pear and apple fruit along reductive notes of matchstick. Linear acidity, mostly citric flavors on the palate. Simple but definitely good stuff that can hold its own against lighter old world Chards.
