Dinner at home (Chicago, IL): Single blind with Dujac. Clearly no stems here, so the identification, with an hour or two of air is pretty easy. Far more opulent and rich than the Dujac, with burlier fruit and tannins. Much larger scaled, with that distinctive 2006 earthy note. I preferred the lither and more elegant Dujac to this, but I do enjoy the intensity of this.

Darker in appearance and in terms of fruit profile. Quite muted on the nose at first, a lot more primary than the other wines tasted tonight. With time notes of dark minerality, earth, spices. On the palate equally backward, noticeable tannins, quite tight. Never really revealed lots of detail, remained quite monolithic over the course of the evening. Impressive depth and length. Drink or keep. 92-94?

Darker ruby color. Nose of deep seated musky berry, rocky soil, violets, plum blossom. On the palate an initial hit of elegantly textured red berry and Bing cherry fruit undergirded by iron and fine earth. Remained restrained and somewhat imploded throughout the night. Ample acidity and firm but smoothed tannin. Moderate length finish of iron and firm red fruit. A very excellent wine to be sure but not giving much on this showing.

A fine, mature Burgundy, with soft redcurrant/cherry fruit, medium weight, elegant and long on the finish. I have always enjoyed Rousseau’s Clos de la Roche on the few occasions I have been able to drink it, and this is no exception.

(Rousseau Armand Clos de la Roche) Medium colour. Again, super and almost seamless aromatics - this cuvée keeps getting better. Intense, yet comfortably textured. There is a step-up in the mid-palate that holds for quite some time before lingering in the finish. This is super.

(Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Not a wine that has ever thrilled me, but tonight's seemed nearly tired and advanced.
