  • 1978 was perhaps the last vintage before the modern style landed. This wine is so concentrated, so incisive somewhat in the meaty style -easily overshadowed everything else on the table including a couple of vintages of Monte Bello, 88 Haut Brion, and several other otherwise impressive reds. Incredibly long and complex finish. Perhaps another way to look at this is that you will be hard pressed to find a red burgundy produced after 1978 that is really this powerful. Side by side, actually cleansed the palate easily of 88 Rieussec. Remarkable. The key of course with old wines is storage. Bought at auction in the mid 80" and hasn't seen a temperature above 54 degrees since.
