Decanted for about 30 min and then drank slowly. This must be (or must have been?) one of the most extreme wine making approaches in St. Emilion and hence in Bdx overall. 2007 was a cool Bdx vintage but this comes in at 14.5% alcohol and a very dark garnet in the glass, almost black with a thin transparent rim. 2007 La Mondotte seems classic in comparison. A fairly restrained nose of dark and very ripe fruit and some soil. Pretty. A little tight on the palate, with dark ripe fruit, soil, good acidity and medium (+) tannins. No signs of oxidization. Finish seems a bit clipped though. Pretty sure would have guessed Tuscany blind given the ripeness and tannins. A very good wine for sure, but hard to recognize as Bdx, especially not from a cool vintage like 2007. Hard to tell if this will improve. The tannins would need more time to soften but the question is whether this is realy holding back some more fruit and aromatics given the material in 2007 was on the lean side, or if the wine will simply dry out. Best perhaps to spread out remaining bottles over the next 10 years or so.

Impressive, similar in style in many ways to other vintages I've had which were '04 and '02. '02 was perhaps the best of the three vintages. This is deep, concentrated and port-like but without the sweetness. Has a profile not unlike Clos de Sarpe - similarly brooding and almost monstrous in depth and concentration. Very interesting but missing a bit of charm and feels overpriced at $100+.

No need to hold off any longer. Pop and pour brings out the sweet, plum, licorice, smoke and coffee notes. The texture shows a lush quality, with a dark, plum finish and the sensations of of dusty tannins.

Solid, but still very young. Give another 5 years.
