Faiveley Dinner at Marea 11/10/2011 (Marea): Ruby, blood center, bricking. Nose is, again, very '88: iron, touch of fertilizer (chemical), leather, and a pinch of spice, later some herbs showed up. Very deep and satisfying nose. Palate lean, tannic, again v. '88. Good. B/B+

A slightly funky aroma laced with cherry liqueur & a hint of forest out of the gate. More life than the '88 Clos de Vougeot tasted earlier. More fruit & livelier acidity give it more freshness. Red fruit profile & medium tannins that are super-fine and barely register. This is fine, but uninspiring, clearly at the tail end of its drinking window, getting tired.
