A stunning bottle of this and it just unexpectedly blew me away. Full-bodied and perfectly balanced with delicious dark red fruit and a rustic, flowing texture. The finish is so fine and complex with extraordinary notes of tobacco, smoky gravel, road tar, cedar spice and God knows what else. Fully mature and simply fabulous aged claret.

There’s always an air of excitement when you get to open a wine over half a century old. That excitement was warranted when I had the chance to open the 1970 Domaine de Chevalier - a wine from a vintage that wouldn’t be topped for another 12 years in my eyes. On first observation, the wine was a medium-ruby color, which was far darker than I had expected for how mature the bottle was. Immediately an aromatic nose hit me filled with red cherries, forest floor, mushrooms and light smoke. The palette thoroughly exceeded expectations as pronounced, ripe red fruit lingered for the duration of the bottle, accompanied pepper and earthy qualities. A short finish as expected, which brought in a tinge of licorice, this wine was a delight over an hour and a half.

Tonight, celebrating St Vincent (the musician - not the pedo ppl).
On plop: Bra nivå. Korken kom ut i två delar, saturerat röd utom topp-cm.
Kort men vacker.
Återkommer om en dryg timme med vad detta växer upp till.
After 2 hrs decant: ====≠============= Wow! What a magical transformation. Nose has grown to include everything that makes mature Bdx wonderful. Including a good showing of CF. In the mouth, it is now a complete wine, with vibrant intensity, pristine red berries, minerality, CF, meat, brett, and enough tannins to make it living. Flexing it's muscles to marry the Pizza-La 'Peperoni Lover' Italian style pizza with extra garlic.
This is a magical moment in life.

The cork, soaked until the last quarter inch, did its job and this wine is in great shape at 50+ years of age! The wine is brown – not garnet, but BROWN - in color with medium bordering on pale intensity. Oozing with tertiary notes, accentuated with dried florals and fruit that is incredibly (and surprisingly) vibrant! The nose is dominated by mushroom, truffle, forest floor, cooked meat and black peppercorn. There’s a hint of smoke, cinnamon, sea spray, aged and dried red fruit, and dried rose petals. On the palate, this wine has retained its acidity, which provides lift to a fruit profile that is bright, youthful and tart upon opening and quickly ripens taking on a bolder slightly stewed character with 30 minutes of air. A layered mélange of red and black fruits with dried red cherries, dried black cherries, prunes, raspberries, blackberries, stewed cranberries, stewed boysenberry, and stewed brambleberries with forest floor, black peppercorn, mushroom, umami, soy, truffle, smoke, charred cedar, and cigar box. The finish literally lasts for minutes. This bottle is in that magical sweet spot where the primary and tertiary flavors are in total harmony, the apogee of its development if you will. Amazing.
Dyp granatrød. Fullt utviklet «Graves».
