  • Light ruby, almost clear. Just a bit cloudy. Dominant red berries, cola, some nutmeg, but a lot of the fruit is faded, leaving a mid-palate modest tannin and slight phenolic aftertaste. Relatively short finish. I think this would have been much better 5-7 years ago.

  • Light red in color. Almost translucent. 14.2% ABV. Spellbinding nose of red fruits, orange zest and sassafras. Light and airy with striking acidity. Delicate but somewhat racy. Cherries, cola, rhubarb and Asian spices on the palate. The finish lingers. Best over the next several years.

  • Solid effort. Slight heat on finish but overall nicely balanced. A little more acidic and lighter weight than Peay's Estate bottling (tried side by side).

  • Found this in the cellar tonight. Not sure if I have a vintage listed in CT that is not in the cellar, or if I have the other vintages of this wine that are listed and just missed entering this bottle in the system. Will be taking inventory soon. Whatever the case, I am glad this showed up.

Seems to be hitting its stride right now. This is what Sonoma Pinot is all about. It's got fruit and caramel and cola, and it's got a substantial dose of alcohol, but done right it is a full-flavored mouthful of wine that is carried by a measured degree of acidity. At this stage, there is also a pleasurable mellowness of decay that adds to its appeal.

This is always a favorite WS vineyard for me and one that I understand will no longer be produced by this label. This may not be the hippest of mailing lists, but it is a long-standing regular in my cellar and will continue to be as long as it delivers on this style of wine.
