  • There was always going to be some bottle variation in this case, but I wouldn't be surprised if we've already got to the best bottle (I hope not). The most stunning, expressive nose I’ve gotten from almost any right bank Bordeaux so far, and a layered, feminine, perfumed, powerful, yet elegant palate. There was a moment when this was first opened and served tonight when everyone present went quiet for a moment. It takes something really special for that effect. Chef's kiss.

  • Markedly more aged than my last bottle, a fair whack of Brett and farmyard that wouldn't blow off. The juice was still in good shape though so I'm hopeful for the next 10.

  • Dark garnet, only slightly browning round rim. Beautifully elegant aged nose, warm cassis, cherry stone, lapsang souchong tea, and a hint of vanilla and an even slighter hint of leather. Smooth, medium body on the palate, plum, raspberry and black currant. Tannins are fully resolved and the acid is present but in perfect harmony with the fruit. Long, classy finish, the glimmer of spiced jam with tertiary tobacco, balsamic, and dried herbs. Oh boy, am I glad I took a risk on a case of this.
