High-end mature Riesling (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Glass: Schott Definition Universal Clear, deep amber color. Advanced nose, very smoky and dense, some botrytis and spices. Wine is past peak, but with such an enormous density, complexity and depth that it is still amazing! Smoky notes, ripe fruit, still some grapefruit, botrytis, very mineral, power, pressure, great length. It still benefits highly from air in the glass. Gets fresher, more precise with every minute. 94-95. At its full peak its must have been a candidate for 100 points.

Knoll Ried Schütt vertical + X (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Top fill-level and cork. Clear, deep golden color. Nose with fine, warm fruit and some honey and other botrytis flavors. On the palate classic Wachau style with lots of botrytis. Very fresh and young, lots of extract, sweet fruit, some grapefruit, high acidity, spicy, wonderful depth and density. Very long. 94

1995 Weingut Emmerich Knoll Ried Schűtt Dűrnsteiner Riesling, Smaragd alc 13.5%...with Shrimp Tikka Masala...fairly intense yellow color...nose of honeycomb and boytris....more intense and less sweet on the palate (than the nose would suggest) with lemon and quince...moderately intense acidity but a little unfocused around the edges...it has a decrescendo drying finish that becomes tart....it does great with the spicy dish....still youthful...
