  • {375ml, screwcap, 16.5%} Classic rutherglen honey and caramel richness, offsetting acid (largely), although the sugar does tend to overwhelm everything else without the balancing complexity of the higher 'level' bottlings. Medium weight, fully sweet, medium length finish. But really, but the 'classic' level for a bit jump in quality.

  • We had a pre-arranged tasting at the winery; and this was the most lovingly arranged and meticulously cared for tasting during our two days in rutherglen. we also had the opportunity to speak to the current cellar master, Ian who gave us ample of his time and answered any questions we had. Really fantastic tasting and we can only commend this winery and its staff for the warm welcome and attention we received there. Bravo! And Thanks a lot!
Also, on the whole we found the fortified wines we tasted there to be the most elegant ones we had during those two days.
Again: Kudos to the winery and its team!
color orange: reddish brown; muscat and apricot on the nose. Lovely smell and taste. The grape just "jumped" out of the glass and the wine left a searing impression on the palate. Intense and elegant!

  • Served with the chocolate shuffle at the end of the meal at "Vue de Monde" restaurant in Melbourne.
This was from the "forgotten barrel", apparently a barrel of Muscat that had gone missing and was found much later, with records of age etc. missing.
A truly magical, and unique, experience: Searing impression of fruit and acidity on the palate; endlessly long, thick and unctuous.
Probably the wine of the night..

  • A lot of raisins and currants, cinnamon, fig and dates. Good sweetness balanced by good acidity. Good length.
