  • In my cellar for about 10 years. One of those lost bottles that I have not opened for no particular reason...PnP, with some braised lamb (left by Mirela). Cork crumbled on the way out, no problem with the wine. Drank 2/3 w Valerie over 90 minutes.

Medium ruby, some brown and thinning at the edge, opaque. Nose of red fruits, oak cedar. Palate is faded red fruits, spice, pepper, tobacco. Fruit is slightly stewed, opened a bit more with time in the glass. Medium weight, medium/short finish.

Was probably best 5-7 years ago. Still interesting to drink, in a tertiary phase at this point.

  • An irresistible treat, in only my first encounter with this bottling. Initially quite oaky, with evident heat, those aspects quickly blew off to reveal and savory and complex Syrah, with layers of sweet black fruit, graphite and pepper. My notes don't do justice to the elusive, evolving characteristics the wine displayed, teasing the drinker just enough to want to return quickly and catch the next wave.

  • Some of the best Shiraz I have ever had. I still prefer the 1994, it was slightly less alcoholic, but the length and persistence of flavour here was simply remarkable. It is a complete package. Primary, secondary and tertiary just all interwoven together to make this harmonious wine. Incredible.

  • Pretty sure if you have this vintage it’s time too bring it out and carefully remove the cork and let it breathe, I’m confident I have correctly cellared over the years however when I tried to open the top part of the cork was tight but the bottom crumbled, whilst straining into a decanter you could tell all was good with the wine, visually lots of light brown colour starting to dominate the deep red you would expect from this powerful Shiraz, the nose pepper, wood chip and herb with no fruit coming through and the palate cigar box, pepper and almost fortified with soft chalky tannins, when you open let it breathe for an hour and drink with a peppered rump roast and if there’s any left make sure the desert is rich but it will need to be consumed the same evening, had this wine in the cellar for 20years should of opened it 5 years ago

  • Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Graphite, earth, leather, blackberry, cream, vanilla, bay leaf on the nose. In the mouth that herbaceous note goes almost stalky. Plenty of blackberry (with a smidge of black pepper), muted cream and vanilla. Tannins are chalky, grippy, alcohol warmth...despite this there is a touch of sourness here as well.
