Bottle and fill good, the cork was a little fungated on top, but no obvious seepage. This wine shows the strengths and weaknesses of 1988. It is an old style Morot wine with plenty of aromatic subtlety, but it comes slowly. Very reticent and tight at the start needing over an hour in the decanter to open up. Then there was lovely complex earth, sous bois and spice that comes out with swirling the wine in the glass. The wine, however, is austere and the tannins are a bit overwhelming for the fruit. Overall, it is out of balance and a bit too tough. Still it was nice with seared duck breast. Not fading away, but I fear that the tannins are only going to get worse. My first '88 Morot and I probably will not buy more.

Winefool Going Away Party and Cellar Depletion (Jack's Bistro - Chicago IL): Tasted 2 days ago, note from memory. Fruit is still holding in there, but the structure of the vintage is more front-and-center.

ROB LLL at Da Do, magnum. Actually got better over the afternoon, but quite earthy, leafy, and not particularly enjoyable. 87

This wine was rather closed upon opening, but after a half hour it opened up with beautiful fruit and integrated tannins. What a nice surprise!
