Ponsot Tasting with Alexandre Abel (Chicago, IL): Very mushroomy and earthy nose, with a fair amount of ripeness. Lots of waxiness on the palate, but there's lots of acidity here that helps balance it out. This is worryingly dark in colour, and there is a little bit of that tell-tale bruised apple on the nose and palate here. The slight nuttiness is also a warning sign, but I think this is still reasonably drinkable. I definitely preferred the younger vintages of this.

Excess: Wasn't a fan of this. Found it much too ripe, with the fruit flavour moving into banana/tropical territory, the oak sticking out a bit on the back end, and finishing rather warm.

i was amazed how good this was (thanks joe for bringing to our Super Bowl 50 gathering), really nice acid with a sweet overtone, florals and citrus, a hint of spice, had never had a ponsot and though i had seen this wine around i hadn't ever been motivated to buy / try... this was a really beautiful bottle, I wouldn't call this "tense / high toned" but it was much more that way than i would have expected given it is an '05

(Domaine Ponsot Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes) Light medium yellow color; floral, lightly oxidized, oxidized apple, hazelnut nose; lightly oxidized, tart apple, tart citrus palate with firm structure; long finish (1st vintage that was 100% Aligote)

Bit flabby and nondescript.

Nutty, wax, nose, oxidative, like a Viogner. Palate is also quite dry, rich, oxidative and brutal. Not my style of wine.
