Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 91.2 points

  • Hazy notes from last night. Light golden in colour, and a moderately strong nose of both citrus and stonefruits. This bottle was sweeter than the previous one, and still had lovely pear, pineapple, lime and nectarine flavours and a nice texture. Still excellent, but a little less impressive than the last showing (A-).

  • Riesling Revival with Bear Dalton of Specs (French Alliance Houston): This was the first Alsace Grand Cru I have tasted and the oldest Riesling as well. The color was light orange. The nose was a very distinct orange liqueur. Expressive minerality on the nose as well. This wine is dry as a bone. It was amazing how mouthcoating this wine was. Ultra complex. The more we focused on it the more we found. The finish amazed all of us as it lasted more than a minute with an almost spicy character. You could still taste the wine on the back of your tongue. This wine belongs with food. I look forward to trying another aged Alsace Grand Cru.

  • Light golden in colour, with a stonefuit- and citrus fruit-filled nose, as well as a hint of sweetness and minerals. it has a lovely rich texture for a riesling, with a wonderful balance: dry overall, but with a nice richness and just a hint of sweetness. Good complexity too: nectarines, limes, apricots, a hint of petrol, minerals, herbs and pineapple all appear on the medium-full bodied palate. Great wine with a long future ahead of it, and room for improvement (A-). Glad I have 2 bottles left!

  • With stone crabs and Alaskan king crab at Christmas Eve dinner. Smoky nose. Rich flavors of peach and pineapple. High in residual sugar -- Cathy found this too sweet with the crab.
