  • Opened at Otto e Mezzo. Slow-oxed for 1.5 hours before being enjoyed throughout a long lunch.

First experience with this wine, and what a wonderful time it was! Upon first pour, this was undoubtedly a very good Vosne - great spectrum of stemmy red (strawberries) and blue fruit, but spicy and mineral on the palate with clean but present acidity. Had structure without weight - but not the most complex, perhaps due to the slightly weaker vintage.

Most pleasurable for me though was how this developed with more air. The wine loosened up, and the bouquet started wafting a gorgeous nose of lychee and tea leaves, almost reminiscent of DRC/Leroy with enough age and air - mini La Tache indeed! Again, the palate wasn't quite matching up to the nose, lacking layers and complexity, but this did not take away from it being a beautiful expression of Vosne that made me very happy.

For my tastes, drinking at or close to peak right now, so don't hesitate to open. However, will stay at this level for a few years at least, and would love to have the chance to try again. Thanks to M for the wonderful treat!

  • Perfumed stalky and oaky nose. Pretty red fruit. Evolves in the glass, coffee, flowers.
Elegant and moderately intense, oak-influenced palate. Nice juicy pure stone fruit character.

  • 2019 Visit to Cromwell (Central Otago, NZ): I served the de Montilles double blind as a pair. A similar bouquet but with the volume turned up. Intense florals, mainly red fruit – but darker red fruit – dried herbs and spices (and whole cluster character) but also more musky and funk. In the mouth, more silken, and with greater volume and structure, than the Malconsorts. Richer, fuller and larger scaled, yet the elements – fruit, tannins and acids - also very well aligned. The tannins finer grained. Most tasters preferred the Christiane, but the winemakers who did not like it as much spoke of a “grubby cellar” component or said that the wine was too “worked” from their point of view. I did not see any lack of hygiene or other fault with this wine but did see some funky and savoury elements not present in the Malconsorts that I thought added complexity and nuance to the cuvée. A long, slightly vegetal finish (again, meant as a positive descriptor). Many years ahead of the Christaine. Such a classy Vosne! 96+.

  • Beautiful Burgundy, clean, elegant, perfumed on the nose and light but tasty and sweet on the palate. The dominant aromas were of strawberry, dried leaves and sweet spices. Came after an aged first growth Bordeaux and stood up fine!
