Red fruit, plums, cigars, and mushrooms on the nose. Nice acidity with very soft tannins and flavors of orange and cassis on the palate. Good Finish. A lovely, mature wine with a bit of structure left. Wife: 96-97 (in terms of Zinfandels)

100% Zin from the Santa Cruz Mtns. ATP. 13.4% ABV. 11 Barrels made. Brilliant purple red, barest hint of lightening at rim. Looking like a 5 year old wine, not one 17 years old. Classic Ridge Zin nose - warm, almost baked or very ripe red and purple fruits, very earthy, some brett - ripe raspberries meet prunes? On the palate this is bright deep-fruited and earth-laden on the attack, spreading out nicely into tobacco and dirt on the mid-palate, and zinging with balancing acidity and ripe dusty tannins on the finish. Hints of Ludens cough drops on the long finish. Excellent, and could easily go another 10 years. From my history with Paul's Zins from this era, this could significantly gain to the upside if you like lots of secondaries and tertiaries - plenty of fruit, structure and balance for the long haul. Another winner.

Medium brick red color with some thinning at the rim. Aromas of red dirt, plum, cherry, fig, and milk chocolate. Palate shows some grainy tannins with a dusty, raisiny, cherry fruit that finishes with a medium-short chocolate finish. Holding with good structure. Not particularly showy, but a pleasant, old, mountain Zinfandel. Drink.

A testament to the greatest Zinfandel producer.
Homage to Mr. Draper!

Jimsomare Vertical at The White House (The White House, Anaheim, CA): Big sweetly fruited nose. Long but a bit hollow the fruit actually seemed a bit closed on this one. Good acids and rich fruit but subdued as noted.
