We purchased some of this wine on a trip to Germany a few years ago. We got a tour of the Rheingau from the lady who was the Ex Director of the appellation. It was very special! We purchased this wine at the Vinothek at Schloss Reinhartshauen, which is a fabulous place. We also got to see their vineyards on an island in the Rhein. To the wine....a wonderful Riesling. The nose was filled with honeysuckle and floral scents. The wine had a very nice "tension" between citrus and a hint of sugar, with a lush mouthfeel.

Classic Hattenheim/Erbach Rheinfront Riesling nose; nobly earthy/fruity, with a hint of that round, vegetal soil-tone I often get from vineyards close to the river in this area of the Rheingau. Palate > Big, round, peach, pear, tart apricot, ginger, earthy lime, powdered stone, & lime-oil. Well balanced. Med acidity. Med intensity. (91+)

Wonderful ripe fruit, typically earthy and spicy notes, good weight (the 14% alcohol does not get in the way), good depth, juicy acidity. The structure is a bit light and the wine seems to lack a certain firmness and persistence - clearly very ripe grapes. Rubenesque perhaps but very charming and very well made. Typical for vintage and vineyard. Drink now.

Late Oct 2012 one glass at the winery: pale amber color; fruits and flowers; mild fruit acidity on the palate; medium/full body; smooth texture.

A private tasting (at home): A relatively soft and open style, rich fruit, clearly Rheingau though, lovely now.
