  • Deeply coloured pinot with a smoky aroma. It's smooth and harmonious, spicy and lifted with cherry, black plum, mulled citrus, cloves and a suggestion of anise with tannin and oak behind it all. There's an earthy savouriness with sweet fruit and violet/r

  • An involving nose of horse Sh*t, very warm and ripe red cherry nose with lifted spice notes with a slight hint of decay. In the mouth, fully resolved and certainly a warm vintage style. Suave texture, cherry liqueur and farmyard notes are a feature of this complete wine. The alcohol is listed at 14% but feels incorporated in the wine - it is not hot, per se - just slightly full in the mouth. Similarly, the wine is ever so slightly opaque as a result, but in this respect is true to its vintage. Miles ahead of the Akarua 2002 which was heralded as the wine of the vintage on release. Broad and sweet in the Central Otago style but with complexity and an obvious ability to age to interest. Yummy brown sugar inflected finish. (Under stelvin).

  • Fantastic Central Otago Pinot aging well. Essence of dark rich black cherry on the nose - like a liquer. Menthol some undergrowth. Very concentrated and long. This is really fine wine. Drunk after Christmas dinner and two Turley zins, this wine impressed with it's balance and class. Like the Turleys, this is high alcohol (14.5%) but had a slightly leaner and focused mouthfeel. No hurry with the last bottle - say in 2013-2015?

  • A great wine. Medium bodied, spicy, red and black fruit. Great aftertaste. Probably at its peak.
