Community Tasting Notes (9) Avg Score: 92.8 points

  • Do not touch this wine now - while it is gorgeous now, its elegance is still a good five years off. Right now you get all the classic red fruits with some Earl Grey tea and sweet spice notes, and some emerging tertiary notes of grilled meat and mushroom. The tannins are ripe and very present, and it has lovely high acidity. But wait - the score will go higher.

  • 2019 Visit to Cromwell (Central Otago, NZ): Whole bunch 20%. Also a fairly mute bouquet. More black fruited than the Block 3 with faint violets and black spice notes. Muscular and brooding on palate. All power. Blackberries and black cherries, some dark plums. Thyme nuances. Clean and broad. Fine grained tannins. Complex and savoury. More 2018 vintage character than the Block 3. Still, an excellent Block 5 in prospect.

  • The wine is clear, with pale ruby-garnet color, and thick legs.
On the nose the wine is clear, with medium aroma intensity of red and black fruits, sweet spices, strawberry jam, floral and mineral notes, ripe forest fruits.
On the palate the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium minus body, medium plus alcohol, medium flavors intensity of bell pepper, fresh green herbs, sour cherry, strawberry, red and black forest fruits.
The wine is of a very good quality, due to its length and complexity. It is vibrant, youthful, but expressive and with fruit driven style. It is enjoyable now, but can also benefit from further aging.

  • Tasting Ground official tasting, Felton Road part 1: 2018 Pinot Noir (Oinoscent): The stands much further apart from Calvert, than Calvert to Bannocburn
The wine is gorgeous in the nose, with depth and concentration, an abundance of fruit and a very thin oak frame.
In the palate, the wine follows the same flavour profile, but the concentration and density is definately a step (or two). The acidity stands high, the tannins are more profound, medium body and long finish
    Outstanding
