  • Daughter’s high school graduation. Lots to like, good pure cassis, alcohol is a little on the high side, but I wouldn’t call it hot. With a little more subtlety I would call it outstanding. Not outstanding as is, but pretty darned good anyway.

  • Opened this today to celebrate a family member's 14th birthday. Open, and maybe even a little loose, right now. Savory, and with enough grip to last; good mouthfeel, and there are more positives than negatives by a long shot. But in a Cali Cab, I would prefer a little more mid palate fruit. All in all, I would choose this over a fruitier wine that was less savory if that was the choice; and I would choose a wine that was this savory and had more fruit presence if that were an option.

  • This bottle was comparatively closed versus my last bottle of this a year and a half ago. Still plenty of fruit and length. My strong sense is that this wine should be better a little further down the road. The finish is long and rich so I am satisfied that patience is the ticket.

  • Delicious. Clear mature flavors of earth and fruit. Medium weight and body. Medium length. I don't see this fading away any time soon. Enjoyable now but would expect to at least hold and possibly evolve favorably for another five to ten years.

  • First bottle was corked, so Solano Cellars traded me for a replacement. Solid wine with black fruit and a lot of secondary, earthy characteristics coming through. Some nice tobacco and cedar. Very Bordeaux-like in that regard. I'd say it's a bit over the hill, but still doing all right--drink up in the short term if you have any. Missing some freshness or life that would normally make me give an earthy, well-aged wine featuring a lot of black fruit a higher score. I paid $28--decent QPR for a solid 2001 Napa Cab.
