  • Always the dark horse/left fielder and always a winner. This Farella made wine just brings it; it might not be loud and it might not stop the show, but deliver it does. Reddish black fruits with purity and poise. Somewhat in between the classic/new Napa style. Some great hints of leather saddle, graphite and espresso. A long finish completes this nicely. My #3 on the night.

  • Holy-moly, this is good stuff. Starts out bit 'distracted' but falls into line real quick. Purity reigns here. Dark as you would expect with a nose of pure cassis, cardamom, and ripe black-berries.
On the tongue this has so much going for it. Its focused and oh so slightly plushy. Very much Bordeaux-like for the first 15 minutes with some earthiness and warmed black currant preserves, but this moves into California quicker than those seeking riches by the promise of gold. Lots of lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, some plum, some fine cocoa powder, some Kirsch & Framboise. After about an hour some black olive pops in. Very regal and concise with elegance and structure. Incredible balance; aligned tannins are in the house, but well behaved. A Tom Farella wine that is so under the radar, we are gonna need another word for radar. Pounce when you see this QPR in front of you. Email me your thanks later.....

  • Nice garnet-brick color, The nose shows a nice dose of creme de cassis and Kirsch with some pure black cherries, blackberries and black plums. On the palate the black fruit profile persists with some nice notes of cocoa powder. A medium weight wine that is pure and exact with focus and balance. A bit of dried fruits and flowers on the finish. The tannins seem complex but a touch awkward and need another year or two to really shine. An admirable finish that keeps it all alive for many moments after. All in all a very nice package at a comfortable pricepoint.
